The Virtual Environments course at The Center for Research, Innovation, and Design teaches students to design architectural spaces in virtual reality.
School: The Center for Research, Innovation, and Design (CRID), School of Architecture, Art, and Design at the American University in Dubai (AUD)
Course: DDFT 473 – Virtual Environments, Immersive Design
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Course dates: January 2023 to April 2024
Application deadline: 13 January 2023
The DDFT 473 – Virtual Environments course focuses on the creation of virtual architectural spaces inside virtual reality (VR) that can be, but are not limited to, uploaded on metaverse platforms.
In this course, students can become VR sketch certified after spending a specific number of hours designing the spaces inside virtual reality.
The course caters to the discipline of architecture, interior design, product and industrial design, and art.
It is part of CRID’s Immersive Design Courses, which also includes DDFT 373 – Virtual Designs and DDFT 273 – Virtual Arts.
The Immersive Design Courses at the Center for Research, Innovation and Design (CRID) of the American University in Dubai (AUD) provide certifications to students and professionals who are seeking to upskill their knowledge and capacities in designing inside virtual reality.
The CRID is the first and only Authorized VR Sketch Training Center, Gravity Sketch Certified Center, and Authorized Rhino Training Center in the Gulf Cooperation Council.
The CRID is also a Certiport Authorized Test Center (CATC) for BIM (Revit) and is in the process of creating mixed reality courses for augmented reality applications.
The different courses, training, and workshops that are conducted at the CRID are under the mentorship of Dr Georges Kachaamy, who is a professor of architecture, a Certified VR Sketch trainer and a Gravity Sketch certified instructor.
Kachaamy is joined by associate professor of architecture Jose Carrillo, who is an authorized rhino trainer, and professor Alex Albani, a professor of architecture and an Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) in Revit for architectural design.
Both the center and the school believe that extended reality (XRs) immersive technology skills are needed for students and professionals in the field of architecture, art, and design because they prepare them for a future that will intertwine and fluctuate among the real, mixed, and virtual worlds.
Applications to this course have now closed.
