Interior Design MA at University of East London
The Interior Design MA programme at University of East London explores the role of design and the way in which it responds to cultural, social and environmental changes.
School: University of East London
Course: MA Interior Design
Location: London, UK
Course dates: September 2024 to September 2025
Application deadline: 15 September 2024
Design of any scale responds to – and in parallel leads – cultural and social change. Our everyday living changes rapidly. The changing demographics, the emergence of new technologies and virtual environments, shift the way in which we inhabit, use and share spaces.
What is the role of design in the rapidly-changing contemporary world? Through our MA in Interior Design programme, we address some of the above questions in a rigorous, experimental and creative manner.
We look into the links between everyday life and design practices. We examine the relationship between cultural, social, political, environmental, technological changes and the ways in which design evolves to respond and/or challenge or lead them.
The programme has a clear hands-on approach, which aligns with the “making” ethos of the school. We collaborate every year with external partners and organisations and we work on real-life projects or speculative scenarios, addressing issues of social and environmental sustainability.
Over the last three years we developed a series of community-empowering projects, which promote democracy, diversity and equality, and all our students received the civic engagement award for three years in a row.
Applications to this course have now closed.
