Encinos House
by Claudia Rodriguez and Rozana Montiel Estudio de Arquitectura

Claudia Rodriguez and Rozana Montiel Estudio de Arquitectura has created a weekend house immersed in an oak forest in Valle de Bravo, near Mexico City.

The project is a wooden house in an oak, ‘encino’ in Spanish, forest, built with stucco interiors raised on stilts in line with a fragmented and modulated design created to respect the existing vegetation.

The building has a rainwater collection and storage system incorporated into the structure, which sees non-linear paths through the house articulated by slopes, terraces and boxes built in the forest clearings. The house delivers a playful experience of the landscape that leads to the discovery of exterior and interior spaces.

This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
